GEORGIA SENATE INTRODUCES INDUSTRY-FRIENDLY LEGISLATION IN RESPONSE TO OPERATION CHOKE POINT

February, 2015

The State of Georgia continues to be a very friendly jurisdiction to firearms industry members and enthusiasts.

This year, state Senator Jesse Stone has introduced Senate Bill 282, entitled The Georgia Firearms Industry Nondiscrimination Act.  The new Act would prohibit lenders and creditors from the discriminatory refusal to provide new or existing credit or other financial services to companies and persons engaged in the lawful commerce of firearms or ammunition.  The Act provides victims with a civil cause of action and damages should they be denied financial services solely because they are engaged in the lawful commerce of firearms or ammunition.

Obviously, the Act is a response to "Operation Choke Point".

Our law firm will be monitoring the progress of the Act during this legislative session.  If you have any questions about the Act, or are interested in discussing the business environment for firearms industry members in Georgia, please contact us at 404.941.2908 or clay@jclaytonlaw.com.
